The beautiful summer weather provided a wonderful backdrop to the busy Lions Flea Market today. Many treasure hunters visited the Foundation’s booth to admire this summer’s raffle prizes and purchase raffle tickets. While the grand prize cedar strip canoe drew many admirers, one visitor paused at the raffle’s 1st prize Crosstrail bicycle long enough for us to capture his affection for bicycles. Thank you everyone for your support of the Boulder Junction community through the Foundation!
Foundation Board members presented Pete Rondello, General Manager of WXPR public radio (91.7 FM), with a certificate of appreciation at Boulder Junction’s Music on Main Street concert July 15. WXPR was thanked for their continued support, through publicity and coverage of charity fundraising events, including the Foundation’s annual Colorama Dinner to be held Saturday, September 19, at Camp Manito-wish this year.
Foundation Board members, family, and friends gathered Saturday morning to participate in Boulder Junction’s July 4th parade. Against a backdrop of perfect summer weather and the North Lakeland marching band, there was plenty of laughter and smiles as this year’s raffle canoe was escorted down Main Street as part of the parade. A big thank you to everyone who joined us!
Foundation Board members presented Theresa Smith with a certificate of appreciation at the Boulder Junction Chamber’s May 27, Membership Meeting. Theresa, who has accepted a position as executive director of the Campanile Center in Minocqua, was thanked for her unwavering support of the Foundation and participation on the Foundation’s Publicity and Community Relations Committee. Best wishes, Theresa!
At the October meeting of the Foundation, two directors, Krista Maurer and Gene Klisnick, were presented with certificates of appreciation for their four years of outstanding service to the community and as directors since the Foundation was formed in 2010. With Foundation term limits, they will be completing their terms in November. This October is the Foundation’s 4th Anniversary.
During 2014 the Foundation Board will focus upon building the BJCF Restricted Endowment Fund. The Board has set a goal to raise a minimum of $50,000 for the Endowment this year. More than $44,000 was added to the Fund during 2013, increasing its total assets from $19,908 as of December 31, 2012 to over $76,000 today.
The Foundation intends to grow the long term endowment fund so that its earnings can be used to award grants to local organizations for projects and programs in the community. To this end, the Foundation is also planning to work with community organizations to understand and define what community needs exist that would fall within the mission of the Foundation. Stay tuned for more news as the work progresses!
